For the longest time milk has been counted among the best sources of nutrition. In fact it has been treated almost as a necessity for children and adults alike. But is it really all that beneficial? Let’s find out!

After conducting multiple studies, scientists at Harvard could find no evident connection between milk consumption and health benefits generally linked to it, like stronger bones, better immunity etc.

Also it is note worthy that humans are the only species that drink another mammal’s milk. The concept in itself sounds unnatural.

The Cows’ milk, in it’s natural form, may contain cow pus (due to infections), traces of cow feces and blood. Along with this it contains any antibiotics and hormones artificially injected into the cows’ bodies.

If this isn’t damaging enough, it is also high on bovine growth hormones. These hormones are only good for you if you are a calf. The human body is not supposed to have these hormones in it. Their presence inside the body might have ill-effects like Obesity, Allergies, Eczema, Acne or other skin infections etc. Also these hormones help cancer cells multiply faster. So if you have cancer or even a family history of cancer , you should get off dairy immediately.

Researchers have also linked milk consumption to an increased risk of getting type-1 Diabetes.

Then there is the case of Lactose Intolerance. Lactose is a protein found in milk that an average human body is not built to digest. Studies have found that in the continents of Asia and Africa, less than ten percent of the population is lactose tolerant. But this phenomenon is little known due to lack of awareness regarding the subject. Consumption of milk with the condition of Lactose Intolerance may lead to several gastric diseases like Diarrhea, Constipation, Bloating, Gas, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Another major health risk that milk poses is Osteoporosis. Milk is believed to be a major source of calcium. But it also contains animal protein that is acidic in nature. To neutralize this acidity the body takes calcium out of the bones instead of absorbing it from the milk. So here it is, the biggest milk myth busted. Milk does not give you stronger bones. In fact the effect is quite the opposite.
