Guran AKA Rajesh Vivek passes away at 66!

We have lost one of the paramount character actors in Bollywood and the Hindi Art Cinema, Rajesh Vivek. He was popular for his roles of Guran the Tantrik-cum-astrologer in the Academy Award nominated movie, Lagaan.  He has also acted in many serials and advertisements. He shot to fame with acts such as Ramesh-Suresh’s Babuji in Cadbury’s Five Star chocolate, as Ved Vyasa in the epic serial Mahabharata and as Baba in Veerana. He was an active member of the Ramsay camp reprising the role of an Indian witchcraft practitioner multiple times.

He suffered from a massive heart attack. His colleague, Vishnu Sharma said, “He was working in Hyderabad for a South Indian movie. It is a great loss to the Film Industry of India.”
He was a Master of Arts in the History and Archaeology from the Uttar Pradesh University.

He was introduced by the legendary filmmaker and director, Shyam Benegal in the movie, Junoon. Most of his roles in the early years comprised of the henchmen of the main villain. As he progressed, he started taking up character roles in movies. Some of his famous roles were in Horror Movies and serials where he looked quite convincing as Aghori or an Indian sorcerer. He then went on to act in South Indian movies as well. Yevade Subramanyam was his last movie.
