Google Earth never ceases to amaze us, does it. Apart from having the choice of exploring one’s hometown without having to get out of the house in the first place, many people also use it for exploring places far and wide, leading to extremely interesting results.
But sometimes, it can also lead one to stumble upon sights that are better left unexplored. Because, you never know what you might come across every once in a while.
From murder scenes to UFO sightings, here are the 20 most creepy ( and terrifying ) places that Google Maps has shown us.
1. A Murder Taking Place
When this photo was leaked online a few years back, the internet went crazy over it. And they had every reason to feel that way too. The image included every aspect of a crime scene : a body, a culprit and even a trail of blood behind it. Too bad it could not get a closer look at the scene though.
2. The Salt Ponds In Niger
What appears to be a web like structure, similar to a honeycomb is actually a salt pond which happens to be colored. Found in the Saharan desert of Teguidda-n-Tessoumt, salt ponds are actually very crucial in extracting mineral from the desert clay.
3. Lake Of Blood In Iraq
Years of turmoil and conflict in the Arab country of Iraq have left millions dead, with thousands of civilians injured. This lake was found in 2007 in the city of Sadr, Northern Baghdad, and shocked the entire world with it’s bright red color resembling blood.

As you are exploring Munich, Germany, it won’t be long before you stumble upon a 56 feet tall man who appears to be a unearthly man who seems to be in a hurry. But, fortunately, the following is in fact a art sculpture created by artist, Jonathan Borofsky in 1995.
8. An Explosion Taking Place In Netherlands
Google Earth can sometimes capture something, that can make anyone’s blood curl with fear. This sight was captured live in Dronten, a few miles north of Amsterdam and records a aerial view of an explosion taking place. Strangely, nobody from the neighborhood recalls this happening in the first place.
9. An Exploding Ship/Aeroplane In Russia
About 140 miles north of Moscow lies the Uglich Reservoir. Looks pretty normal on first glance, right ? Yet, if you look closely, you’ll notice something to be travelling through it at a high speed. Perhaps it is a plane or a speedboat or another ship. We’ll never really know.
10. The Sea Monster Of Oke Bay
Under the serene waters of New Zealand’s Oke Bay, hides something sinister, and if locals are to be believed, possibly a sea monster. Pita Witehira, the engineer who stumbled upon this sight said that the creature behind this formation has to be at least 40 foot long, since it’s too wide for a shark to drag the amount of weight beneath itself.
11. The Endless Well Of Libya
Google maps calls this pool to be “Libya’s bottomless pool” because as you can see that the bottom is extremely tough to find. The reservoir stands out in the dry, north african landscape and is not as odd as it might appear. Water, you know, is not available in large quantities around this area.
12. Desert Circles In Libya
Desert circles are pretty scattered around the Libyan landscape and what’s even more creepy is the fact that they are in perfect round shape and so carefully positioned. Apart from this, each of these holes is about 3500 feet wide.
13. The Desert Circles Of Iraq
Libya is not the only Arab nation that has something creepy to offer to the world. These circles are not exactly perfectly round, but they are still positioned in well thought symmetry. Plus, nobody knows what purpose do they serve out there in the desert.
14. Abnormal Markings, New Mexico
Upon first look, these might look as a perfectly aligned crop circles in the lush green fields of New mexico, but it is in fact the work of the Church Of Scientific Technology. The real purpose of these markings is to preserve the founder of the church, Ron L Hubbard.
15. The Giant Circles Of Qatar
This is the third and similar entry to insanely huge circles in Arab desert land. What is more confusing about this structure is its arrangements. Is there anything that wish to symbolize or is it just a coincidence that it looks like a giant seahorse ?
16. The Green Circles Of Nevada
Like other parts of the world, Nevada too has a system of round irrigation network. But the only difference is that these circles are green in color and belong to the Eureka County Public Works. And you can not deny that there’s something weird when viewing this from the view above.
17. The Spiral Of Egypt
To those who have no idea what this structure is would easily mistake this to be a sort of a sign for the time when aliens descend on earth. But it is in fact part of an art project of Alexandra Stratou, who created this higly complex design back in 1997.
18. Italy’s Giant Rabbit
In the middle of the hills of western Italy, lies the body of a deceased huge bunny rabbit, who is approximately 200 feet long and 20 feet high. But fortunately, it is not a rabbit, but an installation that has been around 2005.
19. Figure Of A Man Dancing In Mongolian Fields
The Gorkhi-Terelj Park of Mongolia is a popular picnic spot for tourists and trekkers who seek to enjoy some quality time in the lap of nature. But it is unlikely that many of them would have encountered this figure of a dancing man in the middle of the brown, arid fields.
20. The Sea Monster Hiding In Antarctica
If this image from Google Earth is to be believed, the ancient sea monster, Kraken might very well be alive to this day. And while, sailors don’t know which part is the tail and which part is the head. But at least we know which part of the sea to avoid from now on.
The internet is a weird place, huh ?. And one must be extremely careful while browsing on it too. Because, a few wrong choices and you can end up seeing something that you might not forget for the rest of your life.
