At an age when elderly people are in the twilight of their life, most settle for a quiet, slow life away from the stresses and pressures of a fast paced world. Naturally when you stumble upon a news of a woman becoming a mother so late in life is bound to leave you dumbfounded.
But such is a magnificent and miraculous world that we all live in, where nothing is impossible.
A woman in Napoli, Italy is making headlines all over the world for giving birth in spite of being 101 years old.
Anatolia Vertadella had to undergo an ovarian transplant to make her wish of becoming a mother come true. It’s worth mentioning at this point that Anatolia was already the mother of 16 children by the time she reached the age of 48.
In fact she was so desperate for having a baby and reliving the joy of motherhood that she had to fly all the way to Turkey to undergo the artificial pregnancy to take place. Because at an age like hers the entire procedure is illegal in most countries.
Now the woman in question has set the record for being the oldest mother ever. The record was earlier held by Melegwale Ramokgopa, a South African woman who made headlines for delivering a baby at the age of 92.
The delivery has already sparked a debate among medical professionals questioning the safety of the procedure.
When asked for how she was feeling, the woman had this to say, ” I am grateful for the birth of my 17th child. I wish to thank all the doctors who decided to go on with the operation.”
“For so long I have felt useless to God. For a long time I believed God was punishing me for only bearing 16 children, but in his godly generosity, he has granted me with fertility once again,” she added.
Doctors agree that the entire procedure is controversial and the final decision was left up to the patient only. Well, we agree after all if she wishes to have a baby for whatever reason, nobody has the right to tell her otherwise.
