North Korea isn’t called the Hermit Kingdom for no reason, you know. Since its establishment as a sovereign nation, the world has little to no idea what goes on inside the country at all.
Last year, photographer Michael Huniewicz traveled to North Korea from China with a aim to document life of the country’s citizens living under the dictatorship of their supreme leader, Kim Jong-Um.
In the photographer’s own words, the following photos were extremely risky to “smuggle out” the country, but he still felt it was worth the risk.
You’ll know why he said that when you see the photos for yourself.
