Harassment in the workplace is a real scenario that is more prevalent that we think it to be. Especially when it comes to women, where it can take form of seemingly innocent but intimate questions, insults or off hand remarks about their personal life.
British law firm, Thomas Manfield asked several female graduates about the most offensive questions and experiences they’ve had in their respective places of work. These occasions could take place either in the daily office life or maybe in the interview process as well.
Their response will leave you speechless.
“Do you get PMT ?”
PMT ( or pre-menstrual tension is a condition that affects 3 out of 4 women before or after their periods. And is definitely not something that would be relevant to a job.
“Can you wear more make up next time ?”
It is sad to see a majority of offices where men hold such degrading and derogatory views about how a women should look like.
“What do you think about dating someone in the office ?”
Again, a question that by no means is relevant to the interview process in particular.
“Are you planning on having children soon ?”
Questions like these are proof that $exism is very much alive in today’s workplace.
